How Tracking Items Convert from version 9

Can you tell me how tracking items convert from version 9 to version 10? I want to add a tracking group with multiple items in v9, but once we convert to version 10, I want it to be a Global tracking item. Will it convert over as a local item or global?
And then can we limit the user security so only certain people can change global items but not local?
Thanks for your help!

RE:How Tracking Items Convert from version 9
That's a great question. I ran a test by converting my own sample data. Tracking from v9 converts as "Local" Tracking in v10. Hint - If you place a colon in the name, those items will be converted into the same tracking "group" in v10. For example, if you were tracking marketing information, such as how someone heard about your center, you could have Referral: Yellow Pages, Referral: Friend, Referral: Coupon. You would end up with a local tracking group called "Referral" and within it would be the individual tracking items of Yellow Pages, Friend and Coupon.

The answer to part II of your question is yes, the User Limits can be set to restrict access to global tracking, but allow access to local tracking.

Thanks for trying that out for me!
It looks like all User Defined Fields however convert over as Global Fields ~ is that correct? And if that is the case, if the schools all have the same field but the field name is slightly different, I can then use Configuration Merge to create one "master" field as long as they are all global fields? I won't be able to merge local with global fields for both user defined fields and tracking fields ~ right?

Yes to all parts. User Defined Fields are always 'global' (there is not such a thing as a 'local' User Defined Field), however, you can use the Expose button on the User Defined Fields screen to make each field available to only certain locations.

You are also correct that 'local' tracking cannot be merged with 'global' tracking.
